Dates of exams are subject to change. Make-up exams will not be given except for DOCUMENTED university excused absences (see current university catalog for details). PLEASE contact Dr. Hood BEFORE the exam by phone or email if you are ill or have a conflict.

Topic outlines:
Outlines of material for each chapter covered will be posted on the instructor’s webpage and Blackboard by the Thursday before we start a new topic. These outlines will prepare you to be an active participate in lecture and are intended to help you to focus you efforts while studying for quizzes and exams. Writing out the definitions and answers BEFORE coming to lecture and taking quizzes is strongly encouraged and will be necessary for you to complete the quiz on time. PowerPoint presentations from lecture will generally be made available for download on Blackboard or the instructor’s webpage by 5PM the day before lecture.

Weekly online quizzes:
A quiz will be assigned each week (see the class schedule). The goal of weekly quizzes is to prepare you for new material that will be covered in the coming week and test your comprehension of the previous week’s material. Weekly quizzes will generally be composed of 10 questions that you will have 20 minutes to complete. In general, quizzes will include 5 review questions from the material covered the previous week and 5 questions on new material that will be covered in the following week, in effort to encourage you to prepare for class. Each topic outline will clearly outline the material covered, which will help you to prepare for the quiz. Quizzes must be taken each week on Blackboard between 8 AM Friday and 8 AM on Tuesday. You will not be able to take quizzes outside of the assigned time frame. At least 12 quizzes will be posted during the semester, your highest 10 scores will count toward your grade. You will be able to view your questions and results after each quiz is closed on Tuesday. Previous students have found very valuable to study the quiz questions for the exam. If you don’t take the quiz, you will not be able to view the questions!

If you have any trouble with Blackboard, contact the Blackboard help desk (webct@coastal.edu or 349-2671), if the problem is not resolved email Dr Hood (wrhood@coastal.edu) IMMEDIATELY, before the quiz closes, so that I’m aware of what time you were having problems.

Class participation:
Much of the material in class will be presented in a lecture format. However, you are expected to be an active participant in lecture. Questions will be asked of the class, if you have completed your pre-lecture assignment you will be prepared to address those questions. We will also be regularly working in groups in class. You are expected to participate in group activities. 12 participation assignments will be given, your participation score will be based on your top 10 scores on these assignments.
